Family Counselling

Your family are  supposed to be your support network, they are the ones that encourage and champion your corner.  You know they will give you honest feedback, love you unconditionally and for whom you can trust with your thoughts and feelings.

However, the reality can be very different as not many families can meet this expectation all the time, and frequently family relationships can be intense, stressful and misunderstood

resulting in angry, disconnected and unfullfilling relationships.

The scale that families tend to fall out over range from trivial irritations to deep rooted resentments, which could be caused from explosive arguments to underlying feelings of guilt and disappointment.

Family counselling looks at addressing the issues that have caused the relationships
to feel strained, uncomfortable or have reached a point of crisis.

We will look at patterns of behaviour and the history of the relationship and
practise communicating from the head and not from the heart.

Common family problems include:

Separation, divorce, or blended family adjustments
Behavioural issues and academic concerns in children and adolescents
Mental health concerns
Financial issues
Grief
Alcohol or substance abuse
Chronic illness

Families that go through a crisis which causes change can struggle to learn to adapt. Counselling can help family members through these difficult times as well as teaching the family to how to support one another thus reducing conflict and arguments .
